Photography plays a huge part of my life. A few years ago as a nursing student I wouldn’t even think to pick up a camera. Now it’s the only thing that dictates my entire world. Of course I had to start at the beginning like everyone else which is why I would someday like to run my own workshop in order to teach other photographers the camera basics, how to light subjects, editing, and even retouching. These skills are ones that I’ve learned myself reading different blogs and sites such as Digital Photography Tips, Fstoppers, and Scott Kelby’s Blog. I’m always on a constant learning adventures...
My cousin just got a new watch from his family for medical school and I asked if I were able to shoot it for fun. I'm in love with watches, the different textures and colors of them. I did a whole series of watches here and i've continued my collection:
The watch that he got from his family was a beautiful victorinox swiss army watch. It was bronze with tri-dials. I decieded to shoot this watch to make a mock up for a print ad and a billboard pieced. Around the same time fstoppers.com was having a contest on their facebook and I decided...
First time using the new Brolly Octobox. It was large and provided a nice soft light that was very well pleasing when it hit the faces of my subjects. We did a shoot for a pormotional piece including a banner for freQuency dance crew, a dance group I've been a part of since my freshman year.
Here is a bit of history on them:
FreQuency Dance Crew, created when I was a freshman with two other fathers; Jeff and Yuwei. The crew was formed after Cultural Vogue to unite MSU dancers of all groups, forms, and qualities to make one superb crew that would dance, learn, and take stage. After a sucessful...
So last week I started a Valentines day contest on my facebook page. I started early in the week and it send this Tuesday on Vday. The rules are that one person can post a photo with themselves and their most favorite or special person and tell others what they mean to them. I wanted this contest to remind people about who they love in their live and to show appreciation for them. Valentines day is a holiday of love. I wanted to stray away from photo of couples and lean towards more of photos with brothers, sisters, parents, best friends, or others that are important in their lives. In only a few days...
I made a Video for DVN board this past weekend and they all loved it! We did a parody or rendition of "Friday Night" By Kate Perry. You can view the video here:

As a thank you they all helped me promote JeFRESH and i even gave away a free shirt for one of their raffle prizes. They got me this cool lens that attaches to my iphone. It has dual purposes. WIth both parts attached to each other it acts as a wide angle lens that lets me get every part of the scene, and with the top part detached it acts as a macro lens where it lets me get super super close on an object.
Just picked up this prime piece of equipment the other day. It's an off brand verions of the Westcott Orb (http://www.adorama.com/WEAO36.html) but it works like a charm. It's a bit bigger than the Westcott and the white scrim detaches completely which makes it 10x more easier to set up and take down. What I love about the brolly style softboxes is that it's easy set up like an umbrella, fits in any light stand bag, super lightweight, super portable, fits on any stand, is universal for any strobe, and works like a charm!
Excited to go out and test this bad boy out!
Had a shoot at the studio a few days ago with a model who never showed up. Blah.
So I had a lot of time to kill while I was waiting and decided to do a few product shots. I found a bottle of Grey Goose and decided I'd shoot it.
My set up was:
White Lightning in large Octo Camera Right up top (0verhead)
White Lightning in softbox behind the bottle on camera right and camera left (2x)
Bottle was placed on black stool
Shoot with Nikon D700 with Tamron 20-200mm f2.8 @ 1/200th, f/8, ISO200
This is what I got (edited)

So for one of my classes we had to make an ad for a brochure that would go into the Advertising Association that all the colleges and professors across the nation are a part of. They were having a conference in Malibu Cali and MSU wanted a new and creative ad for their Media Sandbox program. I'm a part of this program so my class mate and I (Kyle Ribant, awesome designer) came up with an idea to shoot vitamins and pills and make a medical themed ad to promote the college. Here is the BTS of me shooting the pills at my home studio. (home studios rock even though it might not seem as legit)
This is the JeFRESH blog where i'll post random things about my experience as a freelance photographer/videographer. I'll post interesting stuff I find on the web, behind the scenes of my shoots, and tips/tricks about photographer for those inspiring learners!
